What does it look like?

  • Ketamine is a powerful tranquiliser used by doctors and vets. When used in this way it comes in liquid form.
  • Illegal ketamine usually comes in a grainy white powder
  • Ketamine can also be bought in tablet form.

How do you take it?

  • illegally sold ketamine in a powder form is usually snorted.
  • It can be rubbed on the gums
  • It can be wrapped in a cigarette paper and swallowed/bombed.
  • Ketamine can be injected which increases chances of infection

What does it feel like?

  • Ketamine can make you hallucinate. You can trip for 3 hours and you could have an out of body experience. A trip on ketamine is sometimes called a ‘K-Hole'.
  • Ketamine is an anaesthetic and stops you feeling pain.

What are the risks?

  • Sometimes people are incapable of moving when they have taken ketamine
  • Ketamine can have serious effects on your mental health, increasing your chances of developing anxiety or depression.
  • Ketamine can make any existing mental health problems a lot worse.
  • Because you don't feel pain, you can cause yourself a serious injury without realising
  • High doses can slow down your breathing and heart rate, which can be really dangerous
  • Ketamine was linked to the deaths of 23 people between 1993 and 2006. Most had accidents after taking the drug.

The Law

  • Ketamine is a class C drug.
  • If you are caught in possession you can get 2 years in prison
  • If you are caught dealing ketamine you can get 14 years in jail
