What does it look like?

Speed is usually sold in small envelopes, called 'wraps', or in little plastic bags. The powder is often off-white and sometimes looks like small crystals.

How do you take it?

  • Speed can be snorted up the nose in lines
  • It can be rubbed on the gums
  • The powder can be wrapped in a cigarette paper and swallowed or ‘speedbombed'
  • Speed can also be mixed into drinks
  • Speed can also be prepared for injection

What does it feel like?

  • Speed is an amphetamine. Amphetamines make you feel wide awake, excited and increase your heartrate.
  • Taking speed can stop you feeling hungry.
  • Taking lots of speed can make you hallucinate

What are the risks?

  • Speed increases your heartbeat and puts a strain on your heart.
  • Speed can make you anxious, irritable or aggressive
  • Snorting speed can damage your nose
  • Doing too much speed can mean you get more colds and sore throats
  • The comedown after getting high on speed can last a few days, making you irritable and depressed. This can be bad for your mental health and put a strain on relationships with family and friends.

The Law

  • Speed is illegal. It's a Class B drug
  • Possession can get you up to 5 years in jail
  • Supplying speed to someone else, including your friends, can get you up to 14 years in jail.
