Countdown begins for the launch of Nucleus - Brent Mind's personalised Brokerage Project  logo

Great news for the community of Brent

People with mental health concerns for themselves or others can now get help in self management and empowerment.

We are very pleased to report that we have been awarded three years funding from the Reaching Community fund of the National Lottery to deliver this service.

Choice and Control are the keys to providing an innovative, enabling service for Brent that will provide support for people recovering their well being. Nucleus will do this by helping people to make informed choices in accessing services and activities, managing their budgets and plan for the future. We will work individually with clients for a set time period in drawing up and implementing a support plan.

No one will be excluded from applying. The only criteria is hope and desire for mental health recovery.

Brent Mind has been working for the mental wellbeing of Brent for 37 years. We have extensive contacts and local knowledge with a service directory and library to complement this.

Personalisation is the term for a national programme for vulnerable people to direct their own support. It has been around for a long time and programmes throughout the country evidence life changing experiences for many. The concept of moving from a client centered approach to people making their own choices involves an amount of healthy risk taking. We are there to help people over the obstacles and enjoy the opportunities.

The programme will be delivered from Brent Mind and at the premises of partnership agencies across the borough. We respect and welcome diversity and will do everything we can to make the services culturally competent and accessible to all in safe, familiar and welcoming environments.

Promotion of Personalisation will be integral to involving as many people and agencies as we can in the programme. GPs will be contacted and the direct advantages of the service to their surgeries and their clients explained to get them on board. Clinical teams, Employment advisors, Social services and Housing agencies will be among the direct beneficiaries of the programme.

We will train volunteers in helping to deliver workshops and presentations that will engage all elements of the community. We will train and support our volunteers in both professional and professional development.

The team of three is recruited and we are ready to go.
