Healthy Minds
After a brilliant three years, the Healthy Minds project has drawn to a close. It was set up to offer a wide variety of community based physical activities to improve mental and physical wellbeing to anyone in Brent who has experienced mental distress. The good news is that most of the activities are continuing and some new sessions are beginning! The activity timetable which shows times and prices of activities can be found here.
There are free activities, such as the Cycling Group, Walking Group and the Green Gym.
Recently members started to make a small contribution towards the cost of some of the activities in order to make them sustainable. The T'ai Chi class on Wednesday evenings 6-7.30pm operates on a donation system so no-one is excluded due to the cost. Volunteers will continue to support the sessions which are now open to anyone.
The NEW football training session with Sylvester, a brilliant coach from Queens Park Rangers Football Club, has started and will be on every Thursday mornings between 11 and 12 at the Willesden Sports Centre. It costs £2 and everyone is welcome.
If you have a bike, the Cycling Group meets at Roundwood Park Café every Wednesday at 12pm to socialise and explore new places.
We have been working in partnership with Willesden Sports Centre to introduce a new community card. The card entitles people referred from Brent Mind to free swimming and low cost gym on weekdays between 9am to 3pm. For an application form please contact Brent Mind on 020 7604 5177.
So despite funding coming to an end the Healthy Minds in Healthy Bodies message is still going strong. Recently we had a brilliant Get Moving Event at Willesden Sports Centre, attended by the former Mayor of Brent, Councillor Harbhajan Singh. It is exciting to see people coming together to make the most of the resources available and find out about the new ideas that are emerging in these challenging times. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved with Healthy Minds over the last three years. We hope that the new chapter will lead to new activities and partnerships to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of people in Brent. Watch this space!
If you would like to attend any of the activities for the first time, please call us on 020 7604 5177.
