Mutual Support Group needs new members

The Mutual Support Group at Brent Mind would like to invite and welcome new members. We have been organising these groups for more than a year and most people who have been involved have said that they find the group beneficial to their well being.

The Mutual Support Group is a small, committed, self-facilitated group of people who are experiencing mental distress, developed by Brent Mind staff in collaboration with the group members. It is a friendly group where you can gain support while supporting others and developing your confidence and skills. The group members find that being with other service users is helpful and rewarding - and often they are the people best able to understand your problems and feelings. Also, by talking and listening to people with similar experiences and concerns it may be possible to gain a better understanding of your own.

We are looking for members for a new Support Group starting soon. It will run on Fridays from 2.00pm to 4.30pm for sixteen weeks.

It will continue to be quite a small group with a maximum number of 10 group members. It is a self-run group but support for group members is provided by the Day Services Coordinator. The support group recognises that everyone is an individual with strengths and weaknesses, talents and difficulties, and it is based on mutual respect and concern for others.

. Much of this time is dedicated to getting to know one another, sharing experiences and supporting one another through listening and group exercises as well as discussing interesting or important topics, decided by group members.

If you are interested in becoming part of this group and would like to hear more about it or attend an open session please call John on 020 7604 5173 or email john.byrne@brentmind.org.uk for more details.

(Some level of commitment will be required)
